David,

I understand the fear. One of my daily battles is believing that I am not bound to what I have known to be true. I wrestle with unbelief that the gospel truly has the power to destroy the old man in me I both hate and fear. The cost is so high if I lose this battle of unbelief. And those I love most will pay the cost. What I am finding is that my heart's greatest craving is good Fathering, to show me how to live and whisper the encouragement that I wanted when I was still young and innocent. The Father's voice is not silent. As I began to look and listen, my eyes have been opened to see that He has been fathering me all along through unexpected men. And if I have ears to hear, He whispers to me what I need, when I need it, . I pray, David, that the Father would reveal to you with clarity what your heart is most craving from Him, and that you would accept his invitation to pick up where all others have failed you. Allowing God to father us is the only real source of comfort that He will be there for our sons to fill in the gaps in all the ways we will surely fail them. You are a Beloved Son David. May the God of all hope convince you of this and strengthen your noble heart.

Geoff, I pray oceans of healing and restoration for your life. We are all weary and tired sojourners on the path from incompleteness.

I did not grow up with an earthly father. I grew up with the shadow of a pedophile father, and damaged older sisters and a mom who had to work constantly. I had an abusive step dad, and I was scared and totally unprepared for my two children. God has blessed me and given me my portion of what my father would have tainted. I am full of fear on how to raise my son, this blog helped me though, and it's good to know men can be Godly in such a damned world.

My observation from both sides of the pulpit is that beautiful music, great sermons and nice people are all too frequently a substitute for the intimate voice of God. However, beautiful music, great sermons and nice people don't change your life.

I go to church every time I get together with this man.

You are the church, man. Why not take it with you wherever you go?

Amen and amen.

Neal is awesome! He inspired so many, bringing together cyclists, bikers, spectators, middle school children, bankers, veterans and a grateful nation, reminding us that life is something to lived, not just watched. I wonder how many men gazed in wonder at his team's echelon in the wind and rain to wish they were following their heart as he has followed his. And his family, through all the training, still had a loving husband and father at home, and very present in their lives. You not only did something great, Neal, but you did it very well. Amazing job, my friend!!!
